Warriors edge Tigers in shootout

Christian Academy of Knoxville and Rockwood both scored five touchdowns Friday in a Region 2-2A contest, but the difference turned out to be in special teams.

The Warriors battled their way through a tough Rockwood offense to record their sixth win of the season 35-31.

... We gave up some big plays on defense. We were more consistent on offense. Chris Cates did a good job, as well as Keenan Kolinsky, CAK head coach Bill Young said. I was impressed with the way the kids kept coming back even when we were down.

Rockwood got started first on a 65-yard TD run. CAK answered back with a Cates 1-yard quarterback keeper to tie it 7-7.

The Tigers (5-4, 2-3) captured the lead on a 5-yard run, but Kolinsky scored on a 9-yard run, the first of his two touchdowns and Warren kicked the first of his five extra point to make it 14-13.

CAK (6-3, 3-2) was able to block two point-after tries and thwart a pair of two-point conversions.

A pair of 25-yard TD pass plays from the Tigers were sandwiched between a CAK score on a Cates-to-Logan 3-yard connection.

Kolinsky scored his second touchdown with a 4-yard run before Cates connected with Ryan Geist on a 16-yard TD pass.

Kolinsky led the Warriors in rushing with 24 carriers for 135 yards. Cates was 14 of 24 passing for 200 yards and two TDs. Defensively, Jeremy Miller had six solo tackles and six assists, while Joseph Bennett had eight solo.
