Round 7 for rivals
BHS-FHS rematch again in round one of playoffs

It’s not like Bearden hasn’t had its chances against Farragut the past two years.

The Bulldogs, No 3 from Region 1-5A (7-3, 4-2) will square off again the No. 2 Admirals from Region 2-5A (7-3, 6-1) for the fourth time in two years — looking to break a six-game losing streak dating back to 2002 — Friday, Nov. 2, in the opening round of the TSSAA Class 5A playoff at FHS’s Bill Clabo Field. Opening kickoff is 7 p.m.

It’s the exact same scenario as 2005 — or is it?

This time, Bearden seems to have a more sophisticated passing game. And with first year head coach Bill Wilson installing a new system “offensively, defensively, special teams,” the Bearden players are more familiar with that system Sept. 8 in a 27-14 loss at FHS.

And Bearden has since done something the Ads didn’t come close to doing — beating Central, 21-6, two weeks after the loss to Farragut.

But Farragut seniors Michael Hoag, an offensive tackle, wide receiver Chris Eggert and linebacker Shane Reveiz are confident.

“They’re always after us, but as long as we just stay focused and keep our heads on straight and don’t get caught up in all the [hype] and just execute our gameplan, we’ll have a good change to win,” Hoag said.

“It’s another shot for them to get back at us, they do not want us to win seven in a row,” Eggert said.

“They’re a good team, but we’ll be ready,” Reveiz said.
