FHS falls in state opener; Lady Irish reach semis

A halftime lead didn't hold up for the Farragut Lady Admirals soccer team in the opening round of the Class AAA State Tournament last week in Chattanooga.

Collierville rallied with two second-half goals to eliminate the Lady Admirals 2-1 Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Girls Preparatory School.

Alyssa Dresen's goal less than 10 minutes into the game was Farragut's only recorded shot-on-goal. Collierville had 13.

“They took it to us, that’s all I can say,” said FHS head coach Dennis Lindsay, as the Lady Admirals end the 2006 season with a 20-5 record plus championships in both District 4-AAA and Region 2-AAA.

With only four seniors coming into the season, “I wasn't expecting to do anything this year, and here we go winning the district and the region and getting into the state tournament,” Lindsay said. “A great season. The four seniors showed great leadership.” Those seniors are Kathleen Jarvis, Serena Allen, Sarah Fisher and Emily Harris.

KCHS TO SEMIS

Led by Anna Hickey, Knoxville Catholic (13-10-1) came close to the Class A/AA state title game.

Hickey's two goals against Sweetwater in the opening round of the state tournament, including the game winner less than three minutes into the first sudden-death overtime, provided a 3-2 victory Nov. 1. Gretchen Sutch had the other Lady Irish goal.

University School of Jackson ended Lady Irish state title dreams a day later, 3-2, in the semifinals.

Hickey, assisted by Sutch and Kelly Fenowich, kept it close against USJ in the semis by scoring both Catholic goals.
