• Led by four double-winners, the defending state champion Bearden AquaDogs began its title defense in style with a 208-152 win against archrival Farragut Sunday, Nov. 5, at UT’s Student Aquatic Center. A.J. Tipton, Kennedy Higdon, Cameron Higdon and Bo Fithe each were BHS double winners, joining Farragut’s Caity Ferguson.

• Dave Meske, Webb School of Knoxville athletic director and varsity football head coach, has been selected as a Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association A.F. Bridges Award winner for Athletic Director of the Year for Athletic District 2. The award is given for displaying the high ideals of integrity and ethics, and for the examples of citizenship and sportsmanship. Meske has received three A. F. Bridges State Awards of Excellence, and in 2002 he was the recipient of TSSAA’s Distinguished Service Award. Athletic director at Webb School since 1995 and head football coach since 1985, Meske led his 1996 Spartans to the Class 2A state title. In 2005, Meske was named a finalist for the National Football League High School Coach of the Year Award. A retired major in the U.S. Army Reserves with 20 years experience, Meske saw active duty in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. His family includes wife, Lyn, and daughters Devon and Peighton.
