• In late December, the annual University of Tennessee Baseball Christmas Camp will once again cater to players in different age groups while featuring instruction from former Major League manager Jim Lefebvre, the Tennessee coaching staff and other college and high school coaches. Camp for ages 7-12 is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 27-28, in Stokley Athletics Center and Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex. First day activities include position play, a hitting lecture and hitting stations. An optional evening session from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 27, includes guest speakers and hitting stations. Second-day activities include position play and hitting stations. Cost is $160. Camp for ages 13 through 2007 high school graduates is Dec. 29-30, also including the same daily schedule and locations as with the younger campers. Cost is $160. Both camps will include “intensified hitting instruction and drills,” according to camp director and UT assistant baseball coach Larry Simcox, “and baserunning and sliding techniques will also be taught.” Vols head coach Rod Delmonico will also be involved. Also, UT pitching coach Mike Bell will give hands-on instruction. Other top college and high school coaches from across the Southeastern United States will instruct, according to Simcox. Lefebvre will be special guest instructor. Player-to-coach ratio will be 9-to-1 for each camp, according to Simcox. Each camper will be given the opportunity to work at any position they wish: infield, outfield, pitching and/or catching. For more information, call 865-974-2057 or go to www.utsports.com.
