All-state Miller inks with MTSU


Justin Miller, Bearden High School standout shortstop who will become a three-year starter at that position in 2007, signed National Letter of Intent papers to attend Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, during a brief ceremony in the BHS East Mall Monday, Nov. 6. A Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-state selection who also earned All-Region 2-AAA and All-District 4-AAA honors last season, Miller was praised by BHS head coach Matt Buckner as "probably the best overall athlete I've had" in four seasons at the helm. Miller sported a .403 batting average in 2006, which including team-leading efforts in stolen bases (16) and runs scored (58), plus seven home runs and 35 RBIs in helping lead Bearden to the 4-AAA tourney title. As a sophomore in Spring 2005, Miller was named district Newcomer of the Year. "He's a really good baseball player, an all-around good player," Buckner said. "He's a very hard worker and a good student, also. Read solid kid." Saying he was happy with the MTSU environment, "They seemed like they wanted me," said Miller, 17. "It just seemed like the best fit for me."
