BHS’s Andrew Hinkle, Meehan, college soccer players highly honored

Six former Farragut/West Knox County high school All-State soccer players have received post-season honors for their performances — two from the defending state champion Bearden boys and girls teams — four with their college teams. The late Andrew Hinkle, a standout senior midfielder who helped lead the BHS Bulldogs to the boys Class AAA crown in May before his sudden death last summer, was recently selected to the NSCAA Boys All-South Regional Team. He is one of seven boys players from the state of Tennessee to make the team.

Alex Meehan, Bearden Lady Soccer-Dawg senior defender who was equally instrumental in helping lead the BHS girls to a Class AAA state title earlier this fall, also earned NSCAA All-South Regional Team honors. She is one of only six girls players from the state of Tennessee to make the team.

Jason Bowman, former All-State forward for Tom Gerlach’s Christian Academy of Knoxville dynasty who is currently a junior at Maryville College, was named to the Great South Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and to the inaugural D3Kicks.com NCAA Division III All-South Region Team.

Bowman led the Scots in scoring with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists.

Former Farragut Admiral All-state forward Jared Britcher, now a junior forward at the University of Memphis, was named to ESPN - The Magazine’s Academic All-District IV Team and was further honored by being named to both the NSCAA/adidas® College Men’s Scholar All-South Region Team.

Also a member of Conference USA’s All-Academic Team, Britcher tallied three goals and added four assists for the Tigers this season.

Two former All-State teammates who played for Peter Rosenblad’s Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish also earned post-season recognition.

Evan Giordano, a junior midfielder at Maryville College, was named to both the NSCAA/adidas® NCAA Division III All-South Region Team and the NSCAA/adidas® College Men’s Scholar All-South Region Team.

He also earned D3Kicks.com NCAA Division III All-South Region Team honors and was selected for the second time to both the Great South Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and the Great South Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Giordano scored eight goals and added two assists for the Scots this season and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Former Fighting Irish defender Michael Houbre, now a junior defender for the King College Tornado, was named to the Daktronics-NAIA All-American Academics Team and was also named to the Appalachian Athletic Conference’s Academic All-Conference Team for the second year in a row.
