FHS freshman boys, FMS girls unbeaten

Two Farragut schools have unbeaten basketball teams at the holiday break.

Averaging 67 points per game while allowing just 44, the FHS Freshmen Boys Basketball team is off to a red-hot 7-0 start.

Leading scorer Reese Browning had four games with at least 20 points, highlighted by a 30-point performance in a 60-56 overtime victory at Halls Dec. 13. That included Browning’s 12-foot jumper with two seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

Grabriel Porter scored 20 points in a 64-42 win at Austin-East Dec. 4, while Landon Hunley fired in 16 against archrival Bearden in a 71-49 victory at BHS Dec. 7.

Nick Bender scored 11 to help FHS beat Halls, while Wayman McLaughlin tallied 15 in an 84-36 blowout of Webb Dec. 21. Brian Godfrey pumped in 10 points in an 80-30 whitewash of Carter at CHS Dec. 14. Nathan Gibson’s 11 points were huge in a 55-52 squeaker against Powell Nov. 28 at PHS.

Other players contributing are Josh Delaney, Stephen Britton, Trevlyn Singleton, Harrison Amburn, Brian Westervelt, Tyler Noland and Daniel Leamon. Coaches are Scott Tate and Benny Lyle.


Many contributors have keyed the early-season success of Susan Davidson's Farragut Middle School Lady Admirals basketball team.

With a 7-0 record at the holiday break, FMS beat West Valley 45-28 behind 22 points and 15 rebounds from post Hayley Newby, while wing Shaelyn Brown added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Defeating South-Doyle 45-16, Brown led the way with 14 points followed by Katie Cargo with 10.

In one of its few close games, FMS beat Holston 45-35.

Having also beaten Vine, 51-21, and Northwest, 47-25, among its victims, the FMS girls have also received key contributions from Kamile Henry, Anna Brinson, Kirsten Chapman, Bianca Andrade, Katelyn Leaman, Avery Anderson and Allison Woodford.
