• Parkwest Medical Center has been recognized by the Tennessee Hospital Association for its long-term growth plan for an employee base of nurses and allied health professionals. The five major elements of the plan are: structuring for effectiveness; targeting specific compensation strategies; hardwiring leadership standards; expanding employee skills; and growing the external talent pipeline. 

• Pellissippi State Technical Community College pumped an average of $117 million each year into the local economy during the past five years, a new study shows. The 19th annual analysis of the economic impact of the college on the Knox County metropolitan area revealed that the value of business volume, jobs and individual income amounted to about $586 million in the 2001-2006 period, or $117 million each year.

• The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, Board of Pharmacy, announced the statewide launch of the controlled substance database, a tool that will identify prescribing patterns of health care professionals, dispensing patterns of board of pharmacy licensees, and usage patterns of Tennessee patients.

• Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC has added Kelly Fitzpatrick as a staff accountant in its Knoxville office. Fitzpatrick previously worked as an accounts payable clerk at 21st Mortgage. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Presbyterian College and a Master’s of Accountancy at The University of Tennessee.

• The National Association of Insurors and Financial Advisors - Knoxville will host its next program 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19, at The Foundry. One hour of Tennessee Insurance CE will be offered. There is no charge for members; non-members are $20, which includes the CE session, lunch and keynote lunch speaker.

• Davis Newman Payne Marketing Communications has announced the hiring of Erin Smith as media coordinator. She will play a major role in the development and maintenance of comprehensive media strategies for all of DNP’s clients. Davis Newman Payne Marketing Communications also hired Lance McCluskey as senior copywriter. Lance is a veteran of the Knoxville creative community, most recently serving as marketing director for the AC Entertainment group, where he oversaw campaigns for The Tennessee Theatre, The Bijou Theatre and Sundown in the City.

• Effective fall 2007, Pellissippi State Technical Community College will combine four business-related programs into one.

as a way to increase job opportunities for graduates, benefit employers and make more efficient use of resources within the college.
