Leisure Service forum planned

The town of Farragut is seeking public input on any future plans for Farragut parks and recreational facilities in two upcoming public meetings.

Sue Stuhl, Leisure Services director, said the first meeting would take place at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Town Hall.

“We want all the Farragut community to come out and tell us what they like about what we have now and what they’d like to see in the future,” Stuhl said. “The members of the new Leisure Services Master Planning Committee will be there listening to what the people have to say.”

Late last year, the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointed several community members to a Leisure Services Master Planning Committee. Members include: Nancy Glasgow, Mike Karnitz, Sherae Patterson, Tom Rosseel, Pat Sloan and John Williams.

The purpose of the committee is to develop a 10-year plan for the town Leisure Services department.

Stuhl said the meeting would begin with a slide presentation about which parks and programs actually fall under the town’s domain.

“There’s a lot of confusion out there as to what is us and what’s Knox County,” she said. “Then we’ll turn the meeting over to Tennessee Recreation Educa-tion program staff members. They’re part of T-DEC and they will run the community portion of the program.”

Stuhl said the meeting would be interactive in that community members would have an opportunity to express what they would like to see happen or change in the town programs.

The meeting, she said, would not be broadcast over the cable channel.

“We could, but it’d be pretty tough for people to interact over the television,” she said. “We’d prefer people to come so we could get their opinions.”

A second meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Town Hall as an opportunity for those who might not be able to attend the Feb. 20

meeting.
