’Dawgs reach 20 wins again

Bearden earned its 20th win of the season with a 55-44 win at Sevier County Friday, Feb. 2, at SCHS. For the 14th time in the last 15 years the Bulldogs have earned 20 wins, and it’s a streak that Bearden coach Mark Blevins is pleased to have extended after the adversity his team has faced this season.

After starting the season with a abundance of injuries, the Bulldogs (20-7, 9-3 in 4-AAA entering the week) have bounced back. “We feel really blessed,” Blevins said. “The injuries could have decimated the team. They have got the most mileage they possibly could so we just feel like we have been blessed.

“And we have worked hard and hopefully we will start playing our best ball come tournament time. We have four more games before the tournament, so we will see how that turns out.”

Bearden made the most of its opportunities and came out with a win against Sevier County after a close battle most of the game.

“We finally gained control in the fourth quarter, but it was a hard game to win for sure,” Blevins said. “We played really hard and the biggest thing was that gave us our twentieth win we hope we don’t stop here at twenty, we hope we can keep building on it.”

Blake Jenkins led Bearden with 17 points while Dustin Craig chipped in 13. Others scoring were Hunt Rosson eight, Andy Fennell and Demonte Simpson seven each and Matt Ternes with three.

BHS 67 WEST 41

Led by Jenkins’s 16 points Bearden crushed West on the road 67-41 Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Others scoring were Rosson and Gabriel Campbell with 12 each, Craig 10, Ternes six, Marcus Webb four, Fennell three and Simpson and Benji Ware two apiece.
