IRS and town of Farragut sponsoring tax assistance

The Internal Revenue Service and town of Farragut are sponsoring Volunteer Income Tax Assistance now through Friday, April 13, at Farragut Town Hall.

Trained VITA volunteers will help elder taxpayers complete and then e-file IRS forms 1040, 1040A and 1040 EZ, and they will provide senior and lower-income taxpayers other free assistance.

Taxpayers should bring with them federal tax packets, Forms 1099 and W-2, records of any interest paid, capital gains, pensions, IRAs and Social Security, as well as their 2005 tax returns and proof of dependents or itemized deductions.

The free service is available 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. until noon, Wednesdays and Fridays. VITA will hold no sessions Tuesday, March 27. No appointment is necessary for VITA tax sessions. For details, call Farragut Town Hall at 865-966-7057.
