Town seeks athletics, parks coordinator

Farragut has an opening in its staff for an athletics and parks coordinator with the upcoming departure of Jason Wright, who currently holds the position.

Ive been in this position since November of O-four, Wright said. Ive got about six park assistants under me.

Wright said he and his wife are involved in a home-based distributor business and he made the difficult decision to leave the position in order to pursue that avenue.

Were going to distribute sports products, he said. We have programs we can do with schools and young teams. We also have contracts to do some things with retail businesses.

Wright said he has enjoyed his time in the position, which ends March 23.

I think Im going to miss the people the most, he said. Ive met a lot of good people on the different teams.

Leisure Services director Sue Stuhl said the athletic and park coordinator has a wide range of responsibilities. The position is responsible for overseeing the athletic fields and athletic leagues in town.

Its a busy position with lots of details, Stuhl said. The coordinator basically runs all our athletic leagues and keeps up with the parks. Public works does the maintenance, but were the ones doing all the inspections and making sure things are safe.

All sports officials and park assistants are under the scope of responsibilities handled by the athletic and park coordinator, she said.

We all have some little extras that we do, so theres a little of that involved with the position as well, she said.

Stuhl said the town is doing a local search for someone to fill the upcoming vacancy.

This is an entry-level position with basic degree requirements in sports administration, she said. It doesnt have to be someone with ten, fifteen years experience. Its a great job for someone not too long out of school.

Stuhl said she has already received some applications and would probably continue to accept them until March 23.

For more information, call Stuhl at 865-966-7057.
