Pair of shutout wins begin FHS boys soccer '07 season Staff Reports - Thu, Mar, 22, 2007
Two shutout victories begin the 2007 Farragut boys soccer season on a high note.
Both games were also District 4-AAA triumphs, as the Admirals look to earn yet another trip to the Class AAA state tournament.
Ben Backstrom’s hat trick led the way in an 8-0 drubbing of Lenoir City March 13 at Bill Clabo Field.
Joseph Muth blasted home two goals while Tyler Swift, Joshua Riner and Jake Holt each added one. Farragut led in shots-on-goal 24-3.
Backstrom, an All-state forward in 2006, also had an assist “hat trick” with three, followed by Josh Grossbard, Robert Fisher, Brendan Cook, Travis Bolton and Swift with one apiece.
Hitting the road Wednesday, March 14, the Admirals found the going tougher at South-Doyle but managed a 2-0 win.
Scoreless at halftime, Farragut’s Jake Russell, also an All-state forward in 2006, converted a penalty kick.
Backstrom broke the scoring drought with a goal, assisted by Swift.
