FHS soccer fit to be tied — twice

Two easy wins have been followed by a pair of disappointing ties to begin the Farragut High School boys soccer season. Despite a 22-3 shots-on-goal edge against McMinn County during the annual Bearden Invitational Thursday, March 29, at Bruce Allender Field, the game ended 0-0.

“We dominated the game, we just couldn’t finish,” FHS head coach Wallie Culbreth said. “Great teams have to be able to finish, but for some reason we just couldn’t put it through the net.

“To win state championships, you have to be able to take advantage of everything because you can’t control how the ball bounces.”

“You’ve got to take advantage, and we failed to do that tonight.”

Two days before in a Bearden Invitational tourney game against West, played at FHS’s Bill Clabo Field, the game ended 2-2.

With a 14-7 shots-on-goal edge, Farragut scored on a pair of goals from Jake Holt. Tyler Mottern and Brendan Cook assisted.

Despite the ties, “This is a great team,” Culbreth said. “This is O-K because right now we’re stumbling through some things.”
