Rough tourney finish for Lady Bulldogs softball

It was a busy week for the Bearden Lady Bulldogs. After not playing during spring break, BHS made up for it by playing 10 games the following week.

After going 3-3 during the weekday games, the Lady Bulldogs participated in the Anderson County Invitational over the weekend and lost all four games to finish the week 3-7.

“We didn’t have a good week but they were troopers,” Bearden head coach Gary Mashburn said about his team. “They played hard as much as they could. We were beat physically and mentally.”

Bearden entered the Anderson County tournament Friday March 30 and lost to Sweetwater 4-2 in the first game. In the second game BHS lost to Oak Ridge 5-2.

The following day, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Morristown East 17-1 and Clinton 5-2.

Bearden played well Thursday, March 29, and came out with a 7-0 win at Lenoir City.

The Lady ’Dawgs lost at Heritage 9-2 Wednesday, March 28. It was a 3-2 ballgame in the fifth and then an error opened the door for the Lady Mountaineers.

Bearden traveled to Sevier County March 27 for a double header and won both, 7-6 and 4-3.

“We got off to a rough start against Alcoa but we picked it up against Sevier County,” Mashburn said. “We hurt our overall record a little bit but we are still hanging at four-and-two in the district.”

On Monday, March 26, the Lady Bulldogs lost a double header at Alcoa, 5-1 and 8-0.

“We need to get rested and I think that’s the main thing,” Mashburn said. “I really do think it took a toll.”
