MHS sweeps struggling Lady ’Dawgs

Maryville kept the Bearden Lady Bulldog offense in check with consecutive shutout softball victories in District 4-AAA.

Beating Bearden 3-0 at MHS April 3, the Lady Rebels blanked the BHS girls 4-0 at Kim Hazelwood Field April 5.

“Offensively, we have just not been up to par,” said BHS head coach Gary Mashburn, whose Lady Bulldogs enter the week 4-4 in the district, 4-10 overall. “I don’t think we’re a bad offensive team, we’re just not hitting the ball very timely, consistently.

“I thought my pitching had been good,” Mashburn added about senior pitcher Rachel Rowan. “Ebony Reddic [center fielder] has played well over the last week or two.

“Defensively, they’ve all been solid. I think the whole team has played well defensively without any standotus. We haven’t killed ourselves defensively. We just can’t put any pressure on anybody offensively.”
