FHS tennis girls on top in 4-AAA, Ad boys second behind Bearden

Freshmen lead the way for a pair of Farragut High School tennis teams enjoying much success in 2007.

Unbeaten and atop District 4-AAA with only one loss this season, the FHS girls are led by freshman Julia Hsu at No. 1.

“She’s done very well, her only loss was to Webb,” FHS head coach Josh Nelson said of Hsu.

Senior Sarah Godfrey is No. 2, having only lost twice this season, and teams with Hsu to form the Lady Admirals’ No. 1 doubles team.

“They’ve done very well together,” Nelson said despite their losses to Webb and Bearden.

Meghan Whaley, a sophomore, is No. 3 singles followed by sophomore Leslie Roberge at No. 4, and seniors Rebecca Anderson at No. 5 and Calli Smenner at No 6.

In addition, seniors Chelsea Delay and Brittaney Higgins form Farragut's No. 3 doubles team.

Second only to Bearden in 4-AAA — having lost to the Bulldogs earlier this month — Farragut’s boys team is led by freshman Alex Houck at No. 1 singles.

Andrew Noble, a senior, is No. 2. “It’s been real tight with he and Alex,” Nelson said.

Junior Tron Dareing is No. 3, senior James Hebbeler No. 4, followed by Andrew Klarner, a junior, playing No. 5, and No. 6 David Jester, also a junior.

Troy Probst, a senior, and Will Foley, a junior, are also in the mix.

The Admiral boys, looking for a District 4-AAA tourney rematch with Bearden, needed to whip William Blount at WBHS Tuesday, April 17 (after press deadline) to secure that rematch by locking down second-place.

“The Bearden match was a very close one,” Nelson said.
