Brockman off to Wheaton

For CAK senior standout softball pitcher Mandy Brockman, sitting second from left, there was never any doubt as to whether or not she wanted to play softball in college. For Mandy the only question was where. Now that question has been answered as she signed as a future student/athlete at Wheaton College (Illinois ) April 18 surrounded by teammates. “I prayed a lot about it, and after visiting the campus and having several conversations with the coach I felt it was the right place for me academically, spiritually and athletically,” Brockman said. Playing softball since age 4, Brockman began her career with the Cedar Bluff-Farragut Optimist Club Girls Fastpitch Softball league. With a pitching speed of 60 mph, Brockman is the CAK record-holder in number of strikeouts, career ERA and total wins. Playing with CAK since the eighth-grade, she has earned numerous awards including Honorable Mention SportsQuest All-American Award in 2006. Brockman has led her Lady Warriors to TSSAA state appearances three consecutive years. Team members, back row left to right, are Allie Stoehr, Abby Gilbert, Chelsey Pinkstaff, Chelsea O’Connor, Rachel Friar and Jordan Yoakley. Front row, left to right, are Amber Johnstone, Hannah Hall, Brockman, Kara Hardin and Emily Miller.
