Diamond JV champs at FMS

Farragut Middle School’s Junior Varsity Baseball team completed a clean sweep of the Knox area middle school baseball league at Sportspark in Karns with an undefeated regular season and tournament championship. A perfect 10-0 in regular season play, the Ads stormed through the tourney by beating South Doyle 17-1, Powell 9-0 and Karns 7-2. Overall, the JV Admirals were 17-4 — 12-0 against JV teams and 5-4 versus varsity competition. Coaches credit a deep pitching staff, solid defense and timely hitting as key elements to a successful season. Top pitchers included Kyle Fulton (6-1), Brett Dockery (4-2), Jordan Newby (3-0) and Dalton Brown (2-1). Garrett Bowdle, Zander Taylor, Austin Simcox and Matthew Ford provided “valuable innings in relief and starting appearances.” These pitchers were backed by “a solid defense” led by infielders Russell Cox, Fulton, Scott Miller, Austin Manhardt, Blake Williams and Carter Chain. Outfielders Braden Urevick, Simcox, Taylor, Brown, Cameron Yoho, and Cody Rule “covered a lot of ground” while “throwing out runners.” Offensive leaders were Dockery (.577), Taylor (.549), Miller (.422), Simcox (.410) and Fulton (.391). Coaches are Mark Newby, right, and Chuck Urevick.
