BHS 4 X 800, Hirst lead westside state track trek
Farragut qualifies 10 athletes in four events

Led by Region 1-AAA championship efforts in the boys 4 X 800 relay and sophomore Mary Hirst in the high jump, Bearden will send eight track and field athletes in six events to the Class AAA state tourney next week in Murfreesboro.

Bearden’s girls finished seventh as a team during the 1-AAA state qualifying meet at Oak Ridge High School Friday, May 11. The Bulldog boys were ninth.

Farragut, meanwhile, qualified 10 athletes in four events.

As a team, the Lady Admirals were 10th while the FHS boys finished 11th.

BHS INDIVIDUALS

Hirst also qualified in the triple jump (fourth-33-04.25), after coming within one spot of qualifying for state in the pentathlon (third). Her winning high jump effort measured 5-feet-06.00.

Edging out Farragut by just beyond two seconds, the champion BHS 4 X 800 boys (8:14.06) were Ben Fennell, Silas Harnes, Gregg Rader and anchor Jonathan Williams.

Taylor Rotella took second in the girls shot put (34-08.00) while Sarah Canter was third in the discus (123-09).

Bulldog Terry Johnson qualified in the boys high jump, taking third-place (6-00.00).

FHS INDIVIDUALS

Both FHS 4 X 800 teams qualified, led by the boys’ second-place finish from Thomas Fraser, Chris Wright, Tom Gilmartin and anchor Bryan Mann (8:16.70).

Farragut’s 4 X 800 girls, taking fourth-place (10:02.72), featured Caroline Sneed, Margo Sneed, Sarah Brinson and anchor Alyssa Dresen.

Pole vault, an FHS team strength for both genders, was where senior Jeremy Walker finished third with a personal best 13-foot effort.

Senior Kathleen Jarvis qualified on the girls side, capturing fourth with a vault of 8-feet.

State events are May 23-25 in Murfreesboro at MTSU.
