Farragut tennis girls one victory from state; BHS boys win 4-AAA
Maltsberger-Acker, Hsu-Godfrey tops in district doubles


Sweeping through District 4-AAA and Region 2-AAA post-season matches with ease, the Farragut High School girls tennis team is one victory away from Murfreesboro.

The Lady Admirals (14-2) travel to Bristol to face Tennessee High today (Thursday, May 17). The winner advances to next week’s TSSAA State Tournament in Murfreesboro.

Beating William Blount 5-1 for district honors May 9, FHS blanked West 5-0 for the region title May 10.

Led by freshman Julia Hsu at No. 1 singles and senior Sarah Godfrey at No. 2, the Hsu-Godfrey tandem also won the district doubles championship, beating Helen Fisun/Kayla McMurray of Bearden 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, May 9.

Both doubles teams advanced to region play, held May 14-15 in Oak Ridge (after press deadline).

Meanwhile, Clint Cope’s Bearden boys (11-2) beat Farragut 6-3 May 9 to claim the 4-AAA crown, then played Oak Ridge May 16 in a region title match (after press deadline).

In doubles, defending state champ Hunter Maltsberger and new partner Chris Acker won the 4-AAA crown and played region matches May 14-15.
