Cobb pitches Vols to SEC Tournament, beats Gators
Delmonico, Brown contribute late-season offense in UT victories

Knocked out in his final start in Lindsey Nelson Stadium, Tennessee senior pitcher Craig Cobb bounced back in the most critical game of the 2007 season.

Though far from dominant, the former All-state Farragut High School hurler picked up the victory in UT’s 11-7 win against Florida in Gainesville Saturday, May 19, earning the Vols (33-23 overall, 13-15 SEC) a spot in this week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament in Hoover, Ala.

In 6 1/3 innings work the steady senior allowed five earned runs, 10 hits, two non-intentional walks (four total) with three strikeouts.

Improving his record to 8-5, Cobb earned run average stands at 5.67.

Offens-ively, Vol third baseman and former Admiral standout Cody Brown contributed three hits and one RBI.

The sophomore (6 home runs, 34 RBIs, .264 average in the regular season) also came up big late in the season on the road in Baton Rouge, La.

Brown’s four hits and two RBIs helped UT rally to beat LSU 10-9 April 29 and win a rare road series against the Tigers.

Sophomore second baseman Tony Delmonico is tied for the team lead in RBIs (45) and second on the team in home runs (seven) with a .323 batting average.

Yet another former standout FHS Admiral, Delmonico had three hits and two RBIs helping the Vols edge South Carolina 4-3 May 12 in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
