Webb tennis girls No. 2 in state; two singles runners-up

Webb School’s boys tennis team beat MBA 4-3 in the TSSAA Division II state tournament semifinals and finished second to McCallie.
Meanwhile, the Knoxville Catholic boys and Christian Academy of Knoxville girls each finished tied for third in Division I Class A/AA.
Individually, Webb sophomore Guinn Garcia and KCHS freshman Steven Young both finished second statewide in singles.
Young beat Cannon County junior Toby Roesch 6-3, 6-3, then whipped Spencer Nelson of Madison 7-6(2), 6-2.
Garcia defeated Samantha Lewis of Harpeth Hall (6-1, 6-0) and Hayley Humphreys of Hutchison (6-0, 6-4).
Kassie Moore of Catholic also earned a state bid.
In doubles, Webb’s David Parks and Reid Walling reached the semifinals, as did the KCHS tandem of Nick Widmer/Mason Shreve.
CAK’s Kia Batiste and Sarah Hamilton also earned a state bid.
