Fleet Feet Sports brings experience to exercise

Many businesses claim to have great customer service, but Fleet Feet Sports at 11619 Parkside Drive in Farragut goes beyond great customer service.

“When someone comes in here, I want them to have a ‘wow’ experience,” Shahin Hadian, owner, said. “We think of ourselves as a new breed of specialty store.”

Fleet Feet Sports, Hadian said, caters to men and women seeking to increase their outdoor activities. A variety of shoes in different brands, sizes and colors are available as well as outdoor apparel.

“We have footwear for everyone, from moms pushing strollers to kids and their families and marathon runners,” he said. “Our goal is to get our customers in the proper footwear.”

Hadian, a certified coach and triathalon instructor, said he and his staff get up close and personal with customers’ feet. They do examinations of arches, note locations of calluses, have customers walk across the floor and even use a camera on a treadmill to examine customer gait.

“We like to start with bare feet and examine them and the way someone walks to see if there are any potential problems,” Hadian said. “Generally, things don’t happen overnight.”

For example, he said he had a 72-year-old man who did nothing more than walking on local trails, but due to his instep and need for arch support, Hadian said he determined the man needed a specific type of shoe to address his walking needs.

“He’ll have all the advantages and benefits of a running shoe, such as the toe box and heel support, for his daily walking,” he said.

Hadian said sometimes it’s a specific shoe needed to help customers, or other times it’s something as simple as a lift or an insert for the shoes.

Fleet Feet Sports’ support for outdoor athletics doesn’t stop with just footwear.

“Everything must fit,” he said. “We don’t stop in just one place. What footwear means to you, a sports bra means to a woman.”

Fleet Feet Sports caries a large supply of Moving Comfort sports bras designed for women into outdoor activities. Hadian said sometimes a woman may experience pain in her hips while outside exercising and the answer to the problem could be a proper-fitting sports bra to adjust her posture, which, in turn, affects her walk and the weight she puts on her feet.

“I’d say about sixty percent of our customers right now are women,” he said. “From time to time we’ll put on a Diva Night, when no men are allowed and women can have proper fittings for sports bras and other

apparel.”

In addition to brand name shoes and sports bras, Fleet Feet Sports carries shorts and tops by Brooks, Hind, Champion and others. Hadian, his wife, Cheryl, and other staff members are available to answer any questions and assist customers.

“We like to think of ourselves as something different and want people to come in and experience the difference,” he said.
