• Pellissippi State Technical Community College is opening its doors to children and teenagers with the annual Summer Camps for Kids. Most are at the campus on Hardin Valley Road and last two to four hours each day. Introduction to Computer Programming Using Alice will be offered July 16-18 to rising grades 8-12. Introduction to Virtual Reality Using Second Life is Tuesday, July 24, for ages 12-16, Wednesday, July 25, for ages 16-20 and Thursday, July 26, for ages 21 and older. Introduction to Lego Mindstorm Programming is July 9 for ages 10 and older. In sports and athletics, PSTCC will host its 11th annual Aaron Green Developmental Basketball Camp for ages 7-15 June 25-28; its 11th annual Little Aces Tennis Camp for ages 6-12 June 11-15 and July 9-13; its 11th annual Intermediate Tennis Camp for ages 10-16, June 18-22 and July 16-20; and its 10th annual Junior Golf Camp for ages 7-17 July 16-20. Additional sports camps such as Archery, scuba diving, bowling and karate will also be held. In arts and crafts, PSTCC will sponsor morning and afternoon sessions of its 7th annual art camp for ages 8-15 July 23-27, and Photo-rrific, a digital photography class for ages 12 and older June 25-28. ImaginACTion Drama Camp will teach children ages 9-13 acting, voice and movement July 23-27, and Dance and All That Jazz will incorporate acting and musical theatre as well as teach elements of ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance. Dance sessions for children ages 5-7 are scheduled June 11-15 and June 18-22 for ages 8-12. New this year are banjo classes June 11-15 for ages 8-13. Mathemagic is offered June 11-15 for rising third- through fifth-graders. World of Insects is scheduled June 18-22 for second- through fifth-graders. Keyboarding for ages 10 and older is June 25-28, and Microsoft Office Sampler for ages 12 and older is July 23-26. Also available are six Cambridge ACT Test Prep PLUS sessions designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. The pretest session is scheduled July 21, math and science sessions are scheduled July 30 and 31, and English and reading sessions are scheduled Aug. 6 and Aug. 7. A post-test session is set for Aug. 11. • Students graduating this year from Knox County’s 12 public high schools have been offered approximately $44, 616, 194 in scholarship money to help fund their post secondary education. The total does not include Tennessee Hope scholarships or grants. Laurie Driver with Knox County Schools said the total is the most money graduates have received since the county began tracking this information.
