Simmons to Hiwassee

One of Farragut High School’s all-time leading rebounders is heading south to college. Kiah Simmons, finishing No. 3 all-time in Lady Admiral rebounding — in addition to leading her team in rebounding and blocked shots the past two seasons — signed with Hiwassee College, a private junior college in Madisonville, during a ceremony in the FHS Commons April 30. As for Simmons’ value to the Lady Tigers’ program, “It’s something we haven’t had since I’ve been there — physical, size and strength in the post,” Hiwassee head coach Danny Green said about the 6-foot honorable mention All-District 4-AAA honoree. “She’s gonna be a good one.” As for why she chose Hiwassee, “It’s a good, small school, a small environment where they have one-on-one time with the students,” Simmons said. “I could see myself going there and enjoying it every day. The coaches are down-to-earth.” Simmons is seated alongside parents Ray and Pat Simmons. Standing, left to right, are Zachary Simmons (brother), Dwayne Simmons, FHS athletic director and assistant principal, Mike Driver, FHS Lady Admirals head coach, and Green.
