Lyleroehr honored for contributions to Fox Foundation

For Madison Lyleroehr, it was “Dinner at Tiffany’s” in New York as the legendary Fifth Avenue icon sponsored the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s inaugural “Most Valuable People” Awards Gala.

The gala, held April 27, honored outstanding individual fund-raising efforts towards finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease.

“The highlight of the event was actually meeting Michael J. Fox and being able to thank him for his incredible efforts toward curing this disease. P-D already afflicts nearly two million Americans and their families. And that number will grow exponentially as the Baby Boomers age,” Lyleroehr said. “But the good news is that huge progress is being made towards treating and eventually curing P-D, mostly because of the Fox Foundation, who is the chief funding source for P-D research other than the federal government. So it’s not a question of ‘if’ a cure can be found, only ‘when.’

“I want to help make that happen in time for my mother, Michael Fox, and millions of others to lead normal lives again,” she added. “We can do it if we work together – or as Michael said to my mother, if we all ‘pay it forward.’ In the end, the lives we save may be our own.”

Currently a Presidential Scholar at Brandeis University near Boston, Mass., Lyleroehr was recognized for her highly-acclaimed CD, “Heavenly Peace,” a collection of timeless Christmas solo classics accompanied by Knoxville’s nationally-renowned Celtic harpist, Anne Houser Jackson.

Among other accolades, the CD was selected for inclusion in the inaugural volume of the Foundation’s Team Fox Yearbook, which was presented to Michael J. Fox during the evening’s festivities.

“Heavenly Peace” was released last summer in memory of Madison’s grandmother, Betty Jane Lyle, who lost her battle with the disease in May 2006. Attending the Gala with Madison was her mother, Linda Lyle, a UT professor who has also been diagnosed with PD.

“Heavenly Peace” remains available locally at Disc Exchange and online via links at www.madisonsings.com where donations may also be made directly to the Fox Foundation.

All the artist’s proceeds from the CD go to the Fox Foundation.
