• EnergySolutions Foundation announced seven scholarship recipients, including two local students, at a luncheon Friday, June 8, at the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce. Cara Turski attends Farragut High School and has a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She is enrolled in honors classes including Honors Chemistry and Honors English. She is involved with Girl Scouts, Student Government, National Honor’s Society, Math Honor’s Society and is on the Farragut High Climbing Team. Lily Hoang attends Bearden High School and also has a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She is enrolled in honors classes including Honors Chemistry and Honors Algebra 2. She is involved with Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Key Club, 4-H and rock climbing.

• Farragut High School will have registration for new students at 9 a.m., July 11 and 25 and 1:30 p.m., Aug. 6 and 9. Arrive promptly. There will be a short introduction and students will also be able to complete their schedules. Bring the following items: two proofs of residence, social security card, birth certificate, Tennessee State Immunization Green Form and proof of guardianship if the child does not live with both natural parents. A parent/guardian must be present before the school can enroll a student.

• Summer Insanity at Farragut High School will be Wednesday, Aug. 1. Schedule is as follows: from 1 to 2 p.m., seniors; from 2 to 3 p.m., juniors; from 3 to 4 p.m., sophomores; and from 4 to 5 p.m., freshmen. Students will pick up their final schedules, have pictures and IDs made, get locker assignments, join clubs, join PTSO and purchase parking permits.

• Farragut Primary, Intermediate and Middle School new student registration times are from 8 to 11 a.m., Mondays and Fridays and from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 19 through Aug. 7. There will be no registration Wednesdays. For additional information on registering your child, visit

• Local students from Farragut Middle School took part in a creative writing contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a national provider of fraternal financial services and programs. Students composed essays on this year’s topic, “My Imaginary Invention.” Local winners: Autumn Sharp, first-place; Demi Demirkol, second-place and Paul Gary, third-place, received trophies for their achievements. Their names will be engraved on the school’s Modern Woodmen Creative Writing Essay Contest plaque. All participants received ribbons for their hard work.
