FUD plans upgrade

Farragut Municipal Planning Commission approved several plans for water and sewer line replacement during its Thursday, June 21, meeting.

First Utility District engineer Troy Wedekind said the utility plans to replace the 30-year-old water line extension that runs along South Monticello Drive, replace water lines along Everett Road, Kingston Pike, Old Stage Road and old Old Stage Road. In addition, plans call to replace sewer line along Turkey Creek from Lovell Road and run west through the Stonecrest

subdivision.

“We’ve had several breaks in the line along South Monticello Drive,” Wedekind said. “For one reason or another, that line has outlived its usefulness. It’s about thirty-years old.”

Commissioner Constance “Connie” Rutenber asked Wedekind if notices had been sent out to residents that would be affected by the proposed work.

“We wanted to wait and get this passed before we sent out notification,” Wedekind said.

“It basically doesn’t affect any residents,” Wedekind said. “This is a little bit different than the

others.”

He said this project is to connect two 12-inch lines.

Wedekind said the sewer line replacement and upgrade is to help move wastewater.

“This is the first phase of an upgrade and line extension that we’re going to have to carry the water all the way to the wastewater treatment plant,” he said. “We’re seeing an increasing volume of wastewater. It’s kind of a tricky project in that you have to keep the existing line in place while dealing with adding more line.”
