Walker headed to MC

Bearden All-state goalkeeper Bryan Walker has committed to continue his education and soccer career at Maryville College.The son of Linda and Travis Walker, Walker helped lead the SoccerDawgs to the 2006 Class AAA state title followed by a runner-up state finish in 2007.
A four-year letterman in varsity soccer, Walker was named team captain his senior year. Walker also played club soccer for the SMSC 89 Select Team.

Although NCAA Division III institutions such as Maryville College do not award scholarships based on athletic performance, Walker’s “proven academic ability and accomplishments” have earned him the Maryville College Scot’s Scholarship. That according to Pepe Fernandez, head coach of the MC men’s soccer team.
“We are very excited to get a player like Bryan in our program as he is well regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the state, and comes from a proven program at Bearden,” he added.
“We expect him to compete for playing time immediately.”
Walker will join a team that finished the 2006 season with a 13-6-0 record.
Winning the Great South Athletic Conference regular season championship, the Fighting Scot’s return 19 players from last year’s squad.
