Pittsburgh Coatings brings color to community

Bill Wright knows how to add the right amount of color to people’s lives.

As manager of Pittsburgh Coatings & Supply, 11000 Kingston Pike, Wright and his staff know how to stir things up and lay on a heavy coat of customer service.

“Our forte tends to be working with new home construction,” he said. “We do a lot of work with builders.”

Wright said builders sometimes require the same shades of paint for all of their homes. Wright and his staff of five work with the builders and painters to keep everything coordinated and

flowing.

They are able to color match to most paints and design schemes, he said.

A change in the industry is the oil-based paint, which Wright said is fast becoming a thing of the past.

“Oil-based paints are on the way out,” he said. “Just about all the paint used for interiors these days is latex.”

One of the latest developments in the paint field is the creation of a paint with a lifetime warranty, Wright said. The paint is called Manor Hall Timeless. The cross-linking 100 percent acrylic resin uses the features found in two-component high performance coatings to form a durable bond in one amazing coat.

“The paint has a lifetime warranty,” Wright said. “If it chips, peels, or flakes, then we replace it for free.”

This paint, he said, costs a little bit more than regular paint, but would be of great benefit to those who don’t want to repaint their homes every 10 to 12 years.

In addition to Manor Hall paints, Pittsburgh Coatings & Supply carries the Sun-Proof paint brand for home exteriors. Sun-Proof is a name that has served as a Pittsburgh Paints flagship for more than 100 years. These tough, weather-proven formulas reduce cracking, fading and peeling year after year — giving exterior surfaces the strength to endure in the harshest elements.

The company also carries Seal Grip stain-blocking primers. The Seal Grip primers are available in both acrylic and synthetic formulas. Not only do these primers provide excellent stain blocking properties, but also outstanding adhesion to multiple substrates, including glossy surfaces and aged alkyds. One hour recoat time, Wright said, means less down time on the job.

“One of our specialties here is that we custom-match stain colors for builders,” Wright said. “They can bring in a piece of a railing or stairway and we can match the stain for it.”

The matching can be done to coordinate with the stains the store caries, such as REZ interior and exterior stains. The premium stains feature a full line semi-transparent and solid color stains, polyurethanes, and varnishes for interior wood floors and trim, and exterior decks and siding.

Wright, manager of the store for the past two years, said Pittsburgh Coatings & Supply has been a part of the Farragut community for more than 20 years.

“We probably see hundreds of customers on a daily basis,” he said. “Our average sale ticket is around $50 to $100

dollars.
