• Sign-ups for the fall baseball season for Farragut Baseball, Inc. have begun and will continue through Sat. Aug. 4. To obtain a form, you can go to Pak Mail, 11803 Kingston Pike (in Farragut Towne Square) or you can download the forms by going to (and look under the “handouts” section). Games will begin in late August. The 10-game season will conclude in October.

• Farragut West Knox Chamber Night at Smokies Park for Tennessee Smokies baseball begins at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2. Each Chamber member company receives two free tickets to the Tennessee Smokies versus Montgomery Biscuits game while treated to a pre-game picnic consisting of hot dogs, hamburgers, cole slaw, beans, cookies, soft drinks, etc., and will be located along our first-base tent area prior to the game. Gametime is 7:15 p.m. Additional tickets (up to 8 per company) can be purchased for $8 per ticket. Quantities above that can be purchased at $9 each if purchased in advance, or the regular price of $10 the night of the game. For more information, call 865-675-7057.

• Tryouts for Farragut High School baseball will be held beginning at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 29, at FHS’s John Heatherly Field.

• The 11-U Tennessee Homers are having their tryouts for the 2008 season. Those interested cannot turn 12 before May 1, 2008. Children who qualify and are interested can have their parent/guardian call 865-922-5662 for more info.

• Farragut Middle School Girls Soccer news includes: an optional scrimmage at Hickory Creek Fields every Wednesday night in July from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Be sure you come ready to play with your soccer cleats, shin guards, ball and water. Directions to field: Hickory Creek East: Take I-40 to exit 369 (Watt Road). Go north on Watt Road approximately 3/4 mile and turn right onto Buttermilk Road. Take first left onto Hickory Creek Road. Field is approximately 1/4 mile on left. All girls interested in trying out for FMS Girls Soccer are encouraged to attend these activities. Mandatory FMS tryouts from 5:45 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, and from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday Aug. 11. Location to be determined. Be on the field ready to play at designated time. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to get checked in. Complete forms and receive tryout number before entering the field. All girls must attend tryouts. Important middle school soccer dates: regular season starts (and/or practice games) Monday, Sept. 10; league games start Monday, Sept. 17. Knox County Middle School Soccer Tournament is Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28. (Note this is the second weekend of Knox County Schools Fall Break. You will need to plan to be in town). • With upgrades coming in the press box, new 25-second play clocks and possibly a new message board among improvements planned for Farragut High School’s Bill Clabo Field, program officials hope these improvements are complete by jamboree football time. As one host site for the 2007 Knoxville Orthopedic Kick-off Classic, FHS will host five quarters (10 teams) beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17. Match-ups are as follows: first quarter, Powell versus CAK (7 p.m.); second quarter, Webb versus Karns; third quarter, Fulton versus West, (halftime activities); fourth quarter, Bearden versus Catholic; fifth quarter, Farragut versus South-Doyle. Central High School will host eight other Knox County teams (four quarters) beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16.

• Club Championship at Concord Park Golf Course is a tournament open to all junior golfers with tee times starting at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 28. Cost is $20 per child (includes food after the round). Format is 9-hole, individual stroke play. Note that Caddies will be allowed. Age divisions: Boys: 7 & under, 8-10, 11-14; Girls: 8-10 and 11-14. For more information, call 865-966-9103.

• Impact USA, one of Knoxville’s premiere soccer clubs, has announced a free Mini Soccer Camp program for Boys and Girls ages 6 to 10. The camp will run from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday and Tuesday evenings at the Impact Soccer Complex, 2809 Ball Camp Byington Road across from Smoky Mountain Tennis Academy. There are no fees or obligations to attend. The camp is designed to promote soccer in Knoxville and give players an opportunity to discover the Impact coaching staff and the Impact style of training. • Join Farragut Family YMCA Saturday, Sept. 29, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park off Watt Road for the Third Annual YMCA “Can You Dig It?” Volleyball Tournament. It is 6-on-6 coed play that requires two females on the court at all times. All participants must be 16 years old to participate. Space is limited to the first 16 teams that register. Teams may participate either in the recreation or competitive division. Teams that register prior to Sept. 17 contribute $150; otherwise it will be $200 per team if space remains. You may register at the Farragut Family YMCA at 10709 Kingston Pike. Mayor Bob Leonard Park has a playground and walking trail to enjoy while you watch. There will also be family fun activities available to entertain the children.
