Webb field hockey standout selected

Webb School of Knoxville field hockey center mid-fielder Lizzie Mamantov has been selected to participate in the 2008 Futures Program, the Olympic Developmental Program for USA Field Hockey.

After attending Future Stars Field Hockey Camp in July, Mamantov, a junior, was recommended for 2008 Futures Program. The purpose of the Futures Program is to raise the level of field hockey throughout the United States and to identify boys and girls that might be future Olympic-level athletes.

“Lizzie is the most driven player I’ve ever coached,” Webb field hockey coach Allison Hodges said. “She gives the team 200 percent during every practice and every game.”

Hodges added that Lizzie, last season’s most valuable player, makes it a point to attend numerous field hockey camps during the summer so that she can improve her skills at a higher level of play.

“Lizzie will be coached by some of the nation’s top coaches at the Futures Program,” Hodges said. “Hopefully, this will increase her chances of being a part of one of the more competitive college-level teams after high school.”

The Futures Program involves monthly training sessions from January through May. The country is divided into 11 Futures regions.
