VolleyDogs take 8 of 10 matches at ‘Challenge,’ improve to 15-7
Chris Murray - Thu, Sep, 13, 2007
The Bearden Volleydogs got the senior leadership it needed. In a busy week, Bearden won eight of 10 games to improve its record to 15-7 on the season.
In the annual VolleyDog Challenge Saturday, Sept. 8, at BHS, Bearden won games against Alcoa, Cosby, Powell, Halls, Campbell County and West before losing to Heritage in the finals.
“We regrouped a little bit,” Bearden head coach Jennifer Allen said. “Brittany Basham really stepped up this week. She is pretty much our leader on the floor and we pretty much go as she goes. Our other two seniors, Brianna Rittenhouse and Natalie Birdsall, both had a really good week.”
The Volleydogs beat William Blount but lost to Farragut Thursday, Sept. 6, in District 4-AAA action at FHS. Bearden opened the week with a win over West Wednesday, Sept. 5, at home.
“Everybody overall played better this week,” Allen said.
