VolleyDogs play ‘flat’ in losing three of five

The Bearden VolleyDogs have had their share of ups and downs this season. This past week wasn’t one of the best for the squad as they dropped three of five matches.

Bearden (17-10 entering the week) traveled to South-Doyle Thursday, Sept. 13 and beat Sevier County but lost to SDHS.

“We did not play well Thursday,” Bearden head coach Jennifer Allen said. “We played pretty good against Sevier County.”

The VolleyDogs traveled to Halls Wednesday, Sept. 12, and won, but Bearden dropped a pair to Maryville and Heritage Sept. 11 at Maryville High School.

“We did not play well at all against Maryville, we kind of stood around,” Allen said. “We played a real close game against Heritage but we lost.”

Allen was pleased with the way senior Briana Rittenhouse performed during the week.

“I would say that we didn’t play as well as we played last week,” Allen said. “We had a real good week last week and then we were a little flat this week. I would say Brianna had a pretty good week.”

Inconsistency plagued the VolleyDogs all week, but according to Allen that is nothing out of the ordinary.

“We seemed to be a little flat and volleyball goes like that,” Allen said. “It’s real hard to be consistent week in and week out and we just seemed a little flat this week, so hopefully we are going to pick it back up this week.”
