Lady Ads 2nd in ‘Dixie’ tourney
Staff Reports - Thu, Sep, 20, 2007
Following a pair of critical District 4-AAA victories at Maryville Sept. 11, the Farragut Lady Admirals volleyball team finished second during the annual Pick-of-Dixie tournament at Sullivan South and Sullivan Central high schools last weekend.
Despite playing shorthanded, FHS (31-7 overall, 6-0 in 4-AAA starting the week), beat Cherokee but lost to Morristown East in tourney pool play Friday, Sept. 14.
The Lady Ads then got hot, beating Sullivan Central, South-Doyle Sullivan South and Morristown West before capping off the streak by avenging its loss to Morristown East.
Dobyns-Bennett ended Farragut’s title hopes, 25-22, 27-25.
Beating both Heritage and Maryville at MHS Sept. 11, the Lady Mountaineers took Farragut three games, losing 2-1.
Another pair of district wins came Thursday at South-Doyle, beating the Lady Cherokees and Sevier County in straight games.
Farragut also beat Karns, Sept. 10, in a best-of-five (3-0).
Individually, “I want to give Melissa Eggert some credit,” FHS head coach David Moore said about his junior. “She stepped up and did a good job for us. They all did. Amanda [Mitchell] had another good week, Cara [Gregg] and Ariel [Lebert].
“Marian [Curtner] made a big play against Maryville, and a big play this weekend. ... She’s been playing extremely well,” Moore added about his senior right side hitter.
