Hospital’s team-up for sleep efforts

Officials with The University of Tennessee Medical Center and St. Mary’s Health System announced the formation of the East Tennessee Center for Sleep Medicine, a partnership that merges the expertise, resources and staff from each hospital’s sleep medicine services into a single program ready to meet the growing sleep medicine needs of people throughout the region.

Health experts estimate that as many as 20-percent of all Americans suffer from a sleep disorder. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of those cases remain undiagnosed, meaning the problems of those individuals are still untreated.

“Combining the resources of these two excellent programs will provide the latest, state of the art diagnostics and treatment for people with sleep disorders in the East Tennessee area,” Debra K. London, St. Mary’s Health System president and CEO, said, “The St. Mary’s/UT Medical Center partnership will provide several convenient locations for patients to get the help they need with an entire team of professionals available to consult on individualized treatment programs,” she added.

“This collaborative effort between The University of Tennessee Medical Center and St. Mary’s Health System will benefit people throughout our region through easy access to a full-service high quality comprehensive sleep medicine program,” Joe Landsman, president and CEO of The University of Tennessee Medical Center, said.
