Lady Admirals boot Oak Ridge; defending champ Bearden next

Getting out to an early lead is crucial in soccer. For No. 6 state-ranked Farragut, two first half goals proved to be enough to beat No. 7 Oak Ridge Thursday, Sept. 20, as the Lady Admirals cruised to a 3-1 win at FHS. Freshman Ashley Reveiz got the Lady Ads, 12-2 record overall, on the board first with an assist from junior Mindy Hopkins with 25:45 to go in the first half. Senior Joslyn Johnson gave FHS a 2-0 lead on an assist from senior Morgan Plum with 12 minutes remaining in the half.

“I saw a couple people’s best tonight,” Farragut head coach Dennis Lindsay said. “I thought Ashley Reveiz played her best match, and so did Mindy Hopkins. I knew they always had it but they came out of their shells a little bit tonight and maybe they will do it the rest of the year.”

Oak Ridge (7-4-3) got its only goal from senior Trenna Howell, making it 2-1 at the 21:45 mark of the second half.

“I felt like we let up a little bit in the beginning of the second half but in the first half we knew we had to come out strong,” Farragut senior standout forward Casey Ulrich said. “I thought the team played really well. We were working really hard together.

“We knew we were going to have to come out and play hard.”

Farragut widened the gap when Ulrich tapped in the third FHS goal on an assist from Hopkins to make it 3-1 with 10:30 remaining.

“Coach always says 2-0 is the most dangerous score because if they score one they are back in it but we knew if we got that third one in we would put it away,” Ulrich said.

Next up for Farragut is archrival and defending Class AAA state champion Bearden, ranked No. 5 in Tennessee (10-2 record).

The Lady SoccerDawgs, falling three times to FHS last season despite going all the way, travel to Bill Clabo Field. Opening kicks are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Farragut defeated No. 11-raked Ooltewah 4-0 Monday, Sept. 17 at OHS.

The Lady Admirals got two goals and an assist from Alyssa Dresen. Ulrich and Hopkins added the other two goals while Hopkins, Mary Cathryn Suhocki and Whitney Newby added assists. The Lady Owls’ record is 8-3-2.
