VolleyDogs go 3-2

After winning its first three matches of the week, the VolleyDogs dropped two Thursday, Sept. 20, against Heritage and Maryville at Farragut High School. Bearden lost to Maryville 3-0 and Heritage 3-2.

“We played pretty good Thursday,” BHS head coach Jennifer Allen said. “We lost to Maryville but we played them a lot better than we did last time and lost to Heritage in a real close one.”

Bearden (20-12 overall and 4-6 in District 4-AAA) recorded region wins against Lenoir City and William Blount Tuesday, Sept. 18, at home. The VolleyDogs beat William Blount 3-0 and Lenoir City 2-1.

“We played pretty well,” Allen said. “We played Lenoir City and had kind of a slow start, and played pretty good against William Blount.”

The VolleyDogs continued its winning ways Wednesday, Sept. 19 with a 3-2 win against Webb School at home.

“That was a good victory for us,” Allen said. “We played well. It went to five games and they really fought hard and played well. “

After the lackluster week the week before, Allen was pleased with how the entire team responded this week.

“We played a lot better this week,” said Allen, who was especially proud of the way seniors Natalie Birdsall and Brittney Basham played. “I thought our intensity was up, we played together as a team a little bit more and I just thought we played hard all week.”
