Webb junior Lady Spartan golfer Leigh Henderson finished runner-up at the Division II Class AA girls golf state tournament in Murfreesboro last week.
Henderson tied for the lead in the individual category after the first day of play Oct. 2 at Old Fort Golf Club with a 1-over-73. She shot a solid 74 in the final round and finished 3-over for the two-day tournament.
“Leigh put in a great performance,” Lady Spartan golf coach John Schmid said. “Not only did she have a great year, she exhibited great sportsmanship and did an outstanding job in representing the school.”
Lady Spartan teammate Rachel Holloway made a strong comeback on the second day of play at state. After shooting a 96 Tuesday, the Webb sophomore posted an 85 Wednesday helping the Lady Spartans team finish fifth overall.
Meanwhile, Knoxville Catholic golfer Mike Markiewicz finished second in the Region 2-A/AA Tournament last week with a 72, earning a state tourney bid. He won a playoff to grab second, beating Kingston’s Sam Schrock.
