FHS band tops in South Carolina

Farragut High School Marching Admirals band, 170 strong under the direction of Ron Rogers, brought home the Grand Champion’s trophy from the Mid-Atlantic Contest of Champions held Saturday, Sept. 29, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

There were 20 bands in the competition, 18 from South Carolina, one from North Carolina and the Admirals.

Farragut was one of four bands in 4A, the largest class. Farragut received straight superior ratings in all categories: Drum Majors, Color Guard, Percussion, Horn Line, Music, Marching and Overall Band. FHS also earned first-place awards for Drum Majors, Horn Line, Music, Marching and Overall Band.

The band’s overall score of 93.70 was almost four points higher than its nearest competitor. Farragut also was crowned the Grand Champion of the contest by having the highest score regardless of class during the entire day.

This year’s FHS marching show is entitled “Night Fever” and is based upon Disco music of the late 1970s and early ’80s. The songs performed in this year’s show are “Turn the Beat Around,” “Disco Inferno,” “Last Dance,” “How Deep Is Your Love” and “I Feel Love.”
