FBI, KCSO name bank robbing couple

The Knoxville Division of the FBI and acting Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler are asking for the public’s assistance in locating the pair who robbed two Farragut-area banks.

Tips, which resulted from media coverage afforded the two robberies, led authorities to identify: Roy Lester, 40, as the alleged robber of Community South Bank, Wednesday Oct. 17; and Deanna Combs, 35, as the alleged robber of First Tennessee Bank off Parkside Drive Saturday, Oct. 20. Both show Knoxville addresses. Warrants for both have been obtained by Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Lester allegedly entered Community South Bank, located at 11543 Kingston Pike, shortly after 11 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied with the note, but was able to press the alarm button, alerting authorities to the robbery. The man was described as a white male, 5-foot-11, husky build, wearing a white dress shirt, black dress pants, red tie, red suspenders and sunglasses. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

At 11:55 a.m., a call came into E-911 from the O’Charley’s in Turkey Creek Shopping Center, and was dispatched to Knoxville Police Department. When officers arrived, they were told an employee became suspicious of a male and female who entered together and went straight into the men’s restroom, leaving together shortly afterwards. The man left with a shaved head. The male had a backpack with him and is described as a white male with very red skin wearing a gray T-shirt with a pink and white design on the right back shoulder. The female is described as a white female in her late 30s to early 40s, approximately 5-foot-5 tall and weighing 140 pounds, with dirty blonde long hair, wearing gray sweatpants and a dark blue hooded sweatshirt. A plastic bag with clothes that match the original suspect description from the bank robbery was found in the bathroom garbage, along with hair clippings.

Combs allegedly entered First Tennessee Bank at 11685 Parkside Drive at 10:54 a.m., and presented a note, which threatened violence and demanded money to a teller. After receiving an undetermined amount of money, Combs left the bank on foot. Witnesses described the suspect as a white female in her late 20s or early 30s. She had long dirty-blonde hair pulled up and back in a ponytail. She was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt over a red T-shirt, blue jeans, and sunglasses. She was approximately 5-foot-5 tall, weighing between 130 and 160 pounds. She was last seen running west toward Campbell Station Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865-544-0751, or KCSO at 865-215-2243. The public is reminded not to approach these individuals, but to contact law enforcement.
