Farragut, Bearden hockey teams claim week 3 wins
Mark Beyer - Thu, Nov, 22, 2007
Week three of the 2007-08 Knox Area Hockey Association season proved that this season is anybody’s game.
 |
The Bearden/Karns cooperative team put together an excellent show using passes to the weak side of the Metro Pirates net to tuck away one-unassisted and five assisted goals, and with 29 shots-on-goal defeated Metro 6-4.
David Rousseau not only had two goals and two assists, but his defensive play created one opportunity after another for the B/K team. Adam Bates added one goal, one assist, while Jeremy Gibbens had two assists. Metro had 24 shots-on-goal.
Unsung defensive heroes stepped up this week in both games.
In game two, Farragut ended some of the struggling of their first two games and beat the Warriors 5-3.
Key for the Admirals (10 shots) was a balance of solid team play and standout performances by captain Diana Deer, and alternates James Dickinson and Jake Lannigan.
Both games were subject to a “run-clock third period situation.”
While the Farragut defense blocked 10-plus shots, FHS goalie Nathan Rathgeb came up big in the third period.
After allowing a goal, he stoned the Warriors onslaught of 10 shots and ended with an 87.5 save percentage.
