• More than 100 participants came out to enjoy a beautiful fall morning as Paideia Academy, Knoxville’s Classical Christian school, hosted its second annual 5K Run for the Classics and Family Fun Walk Saturday, Oct. 20, at Pellissippi Community Trails. Laura Fronig won the race with a time of 20:45. Jo Harris was second in the women’s category at 25:50, and Tracy Willis-Cook finished third in the women’s division with a time of 26:23. Jeff Charlton placed first for the men, and second overall, with a time of 20:49. Evan Lindauer was second for the men and third-place overall at 21:14, and Tom Fronig was the third-place male runner at 21:18. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners, and all participants received a “5K Run for the Classics” t-shirt featuring this year’s theme: “Curro Ergo Sum” (I run, therefore I am). The race benefited the school’s scholarship program and raised almost $13,000. Horne Properties, HouseWall Garage Systems and Trademark Advertising were sponsors.

• Farragut Baseball, Inc. is now accepting applications for travel league coaches. All individuals seeking to coach a travel team in FBI’s Willie Mays (age 10-and-Under), Pee Wee Reese (12-Under) or Sandy Koufax (14-Under) leagues must complete the application. A screening committee will review all applications. Forms are available at Pak Mail, 11803 Kingston Pike, in Farragut Towne Square Shopping Center or by logging on to the league’s Web site: Applications are due back to the league by Saturday, Dec. 22.

• Smoky Mountain Clinic and Showcase baseball for ages 13 through 2008 seniors will be held Dec. 15. College coaches from 10 different colleges and universities will be featured instructors. • Thunder Baseball School will hold a Christmas Camp for ages 5 to 12 Dec. 27-28. Cost is $75. Team discounts available. Obtain application from or call 865-670-3900.
