Ice Admirals slip past BHS team

In the tightly packed Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association high school standings at roughly the halfway point of the season, Farragut (3-2 record/second-place) picked up a huge 5-4 win against Bearden/Karns Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Icearium.

Bearden (1-4) jumped ahead 1-0 at 1:50 into the first period with superb team play and finish work by co-captain David Rousseau, assisted by Adam Bates.

With only .6 of a second on the first period clock, FHS freshman Karl Petrow put one in the back of the net assisted by Matt Krahl and team captain Diana Deer.

The second period ended in a tie at 3-3 with another last-second goal by Farragut’s James Dickinson, one of the league’s leading points producers.

Bearden-Karns took the lead for the third time in the game just 55 seconds into the third period on a goal by Jeff Slack, assisted by Jacobsen and Nickels. Farragut then started using checking lines that took hits while moving the puck out, and quick line changes with two cycles of three lines gave everyone a rest.

At 4:43 into the third period, the Admirals made their move. Farragut scored two goals on brilliant passes from Dickinson to Jake Lannigan in front of the B/K net — same combination for two goals in 19 seconds.

With B/K emptying the net twice during the last two minutes, the Ads played a man down on a slashing penalty. Bearden/Karns outshot Farragut 30-21.
