Moore top BHS wrestler
Staff Reports - Thu, Dec, 20, 2007
Flanked by a team without a senior, junior captain Matt Moore has become the face of Bearden High School wrestling this season.
Moore, grappling in the 160-pound class, finished sixth at the prestigeous Catholic Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 1, then went unbeaten during the St. Mary’s dual tournament, going 5-0.
“He’s probably our top wrestler rightnow,” BHS head coach Donnie Floyd said. “A lot of [his success] is developing technique, and just hard work.”
Otherwise, “I’ve got a real young team,” Floyd added.
It’s no wonder the Bulldogs have a losing dual match record, given that Bearden has to forfeit five weight classes it simply can’t fill: 125, 140, 145, 215 and 285.
“The whole team’s working hard to come up, they’re learning a lot.”
