• BAILEY, Martha Lynn Cross,
passed away at her Knoxville home Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. A native of West Tennessee, she moved to Harrogate in 1948 with the love of her life, her husband, Dean. There they began a wonderful life together of more than 30 years on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University. All those whose lived she touched on campus at LMU and later in retirement in Knoxville remember her as “the beautiful coaches wife,” a most loving mother, and later a grandmother and great-grandmother whose smile and caring personality endeared her to all. She lived her life as she died, with grace, dignity and an unyielding faith. She was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Ollie Cross; and her husband, Dean Chase Bailey. She is survived by her brother, Douglas Cross and wife, Lynn of Memphis; daughter, Lynn Black and husband, Jim of Knoxville; son, Dean “Skip” Bailey and wife, Tami of Abingdon, Va.; grandsons, Chad Black and wife, Heather of Brentwood, Chase and Tyler Bailey of Abingdon; granddaughter, Jennifer Hathaway and husband, Mark of Ft. Myers. Fla.; great-grandsons, Bailey James and Owen Dean Black of Brentwood; and special nieces, Sara Jane Rowe and Cathy Duff of Memphis. Funeral service was Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Buran Phillips and the Rev. Chris Carrasco officiating. Family and friends met at Highland Memorial Cemetery Tuesday for an entombment service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919, LMU Athletic Department, Harrogate, TN 37752, or to a charity of your choice. The family received friends Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
