Rousseau leads BHS/Karns

The Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association High School League was sent into turmoil in Week Seven thanks to the Bearden/Karns team ó as much anticipated barking from the Dawgs and some defensive dam building by the Beavers combined to dominate the first-place Warriors 6-2.

The Metro Pirates continued its domination of the Farragut Admirals 5-2.

Bearden/Karns (2-4-1 record) set the tone early with two goals in the first three minutes. Co-captain David Rousseau was a monster on the ice, racking up six points by gameís end by participating in every B/K goal.

In addition, his defensive play at forward included help defense with expert back-checking, stick-checking and clearing the puck in front of goalie Breck Mashburn. Rousseauís accomplishments game without drawing a penalty.

As for his teammates, Rousseau could not have had four assists unless his teammates were in position to play the puck. For Bearden/Karns, Rateu had two goals while Alex Nickels added one goal and one assist. For the Warriors, Evan Cherry had one goal and one assist.

Farragut (3-4-0 record) jumped out to an early lead ending the first period 1-0 on a spectacular shut-out period from Admiralsí goalie Nathan Rathgeb, recording 14 saves.

But the Pirates stepped up their hitting in the second period and it had the desired effect.

Metro paid a price for their new tactics: receiving numerous penalties throughout the second period in what turned out to be a penalty filled game with unsportsmanlike and misconduct calls.

The Pirates went ahead 3-1 by the end of the second and never looked back.
