You’ve missed it. The last day, that is, to register to vote in the Feb. 5 Presidential and Knox County Primary.

Up for grabs will be the offices of Property Assessor, Law Director, School Board District 5, County Trustee, Sheriff, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, Criminal Court Judge Division II, and County Commission district seats 4A, 4B and 5C, along with other seats outside our readership.

Vying for the County Commission seat 5C (Farragut and deep West Knox County) are six candidates: Independent Don Sproles, and Republicans Thomas S. Baer, Richard M. Briggs, Jim A. McEvers, Kyle H. Phillips and John Schoonmaker.

In District 4A (Bearden) are Democrats Elaine Davis and Finbarr Saunders, Republicans Richard Cate, William Daniels, Ruthie Stone Kuhlman and Walt Wojnar and vying for Seat 4B (Bearden) is Democrat Steve Drevik and Republicans Logan Brummitt, Ed Shouse, Jim Smelcher and Lee Tramel.

The sitting County Commission decided to make appointments to seats vacated by court ruling following the Primary — a task the sitting members were required to do nearly a year ago Jan. 31 and failed.

So, when the County General Election rolls around Aug. 7 one of these candidates has a chance of being appointed to the post for which he or she is campaigning.

Confused? Many are.

Good luck.
